7 Best Dynamic QR Code Generators in 2026 (Free and Paid)

A dynamic QR Code is one you can repoint after printing. That is the whole difference. That single property is the reason most people go looking for a generator at all, and it is the property most free plans quietly withhold.

The distinction matters commercially, and the market data bears it out, since Mordor Intelligence attributes 64.92% of 2025 QR Code market revenue to dynamic codes, which tells you the paid half of this market is built almost entirely on the ability to change a destination. Static codes are free nearly everywhere, whereas editable ones are where the money sits.

This guide compares seven dynamic QR Code generators on the numbers that decide the purchase: how many editable codes you get free, what the first paid step costs, and what happens to a live code when you stop paying. Prices for six of the seven were checked on 25 July 2026, and Bitly was checked on 23 August 2026.

What makes a QR Code dynamic?

A static QR Code carries the destination inside the pattern itself. It needs no server, it works forever, and it cannot be changed once printed. A dynamic QR Code carries a short redirect instead, so the printed pattern never changes while you point it wherever you like, and every scan passes through a server that counts it on the way.

That redirect is doing two jobs at once, and it is worth separating them. It gives you editability, so a menu can move without a reprint. It also gives you tracking, because a scan has to touch a server before it reaches the destination. You cannot have the second without the first, which is why every trackable code is also a dynamic one.

The trade is dependency, because a static code outlives the company that made it, whereas a dynamic code lives exactly as long as somebody keeps the redirect running. That is the clause worth checking before you print anything, and it is the one this comparison keeps returning to.

Why do free dynamic QR Codes matter so much?

The answer is that the free tier is where most projects start, and it is also where the terms between these tools differ most.

Almost every generator gives away unlimited static codes, so free static is not a differentiator, whereas free dynamic very much is. Some tools offer none at all, some offer two or three permanently, and a couple offer ten. The gap between zero and two is the gap between reprinting a flyer and editing a link, and it costs nothing to be on the right side of it.

Demand is not the constraint here, since EMARKETER’s February 2024 forecast put 38.0% of people in the US as scanning a QR Code at least once a year, which works out at more than 100 million people. Your code will get scanned, and the only real question is whether you can still change where it goes six months later.

The 7 best dynamic QR Code generators

The list is ranked on free dynamic allowance first, then on what the first paid tier costs, and finally on whether the codes survive a lapsed subscription.

1. The QR Code Generator (TQRCG)

The QR Code Generator’s free dynamic QR Codes are the strongest starting point on this page, and the reason is a clause rather than a number. You get 2 free dynamic QR Codes that never expire, plus unlimited free static QR Codes, and those free dynamic codes stay live through a downgrade or a cancellation.

Read that against the rest of this list, where QR TIGER switches dynamic codes off when a plan expires. Bitly does not offer redirects on its free plan at all. TQRCG keeps two codes running whatever happens to the account, which is the behavior you want on a printed menu, a yard sign, or a packaging insert.

Customization sits on the free plan, so brand colors, an embedded logo, call-to-action frames, and dot styling all come at no cost. Scan analytics cover total scans, unique users, city, country, and device across a 14-day window. Security certifications are SOC 2, ISO 27001, and GDPR at the free tier, which is unusual for a plan that costs nothing.

Flex starts at $5 per month billed yearly for 5 dynamic QR Codes, and reaches $10 per month billed yearly for 45. That step clears the advertising from the free dynamic codes, stretches scan history to 60 days, removes the watermark from free static downloads, and turns on bulk creation. Sixty dollars a year for five permanent editable codes is the cheapest honest entry on this page.

The limits are worth stating plainly, because only 2 dynamic codes are free; those codes carry advertising until you upgrade; free static downloads carry a watermark; and both Free and Flex are single-user accounts. For a solo marketer, none of that bites, whereas a team of six will feel the single seat immediately.  It suits anyone who needs a code that keeps working after the budget conversation has gone the wrong way.

2. QR TIGER

QR TIGER is the volume answer, and it earns second place on throughput rather than on its free tier. The free plan carries 3 dynamic QR Codes with 500 scans each alongside unlimited static codes, though every free code displays a QR TIGER logo pop-up, which rules the free tier out for client-facing print.

Advanced costs US$16 per month billed annually for 200 dynamic QR Codes, with batch creation of up to 3,000 codes per upload. Premium costs US$37 per month billed annually for 600 codes. A Regular tier is listed at US$7 per month, though the page leaves its billing basis unresolved, so it is not quoted here.

The paid analytics go deeper than anything else in this comparison, covering scans by time, location, and device, with GA4 and Google Tag Manager support, Facebook pixel retargeting, custom UTM parameters, and geofencing.

Now the terms, and they matter more here than anywhere. Dynamic QR Codes stop working when the plan expires, code allowances are valid for one year and do not carry over on renewal, and a dynamic code scanned eight or more times cannot be deleted.  It fits marketing teams generating codes in the hundreds, provided somebody keeps the subscription live.

3. QRCodeChimp

QRCodeChimp gives away more free dynamic codes than almost anything else, and it swaps a code limit for a scan limit. Free Forever includes unlimited static QR Codes and 10 dynamic ones, with logo, custom shapes, stickers, and 3D styling, plus passcode protection and two-factor authentication at no cost.

The ceiling is 1,000 total scans a month across the whole account instead of per code. Reach it, and scanning pauses until the month turns over. One code beside a till in a shop serving fifty customers a day clears that inside three weeks, so treat the free tier as a pilot and not as a deployment.

Starter costs $9.99 per month billed monthly or $6.99 per month paid yearly for 50 dynamic codes and 10,000 scans. Pro costs $19.99 monthly or $13.99 paid yearly, and lifts you to 300 codes, 150,000 scans and bulk upload. One caution worth reading: dropping from a paid plan back to free, and every dynamic code except your last 10 gets paused.  It works for a small business running several codes against modest foot traffic.

4. QR Code Prime

QR Code Prime’s dynamic codes come with a free account and no paid tier underneath, which makes this the most straightforward offer in the comparison. You get 10 dynamic QR Codes with 500 tracked scans a month, alongside unlimited static QR Codes that carry no watermark at any time.

Ten free editable codes are five times what TQRCG offers on its free plan, and five times what Bitly gives you on a $120-a-year Core plan. There is nothing to cancel, nothing to be upsold into, and no account required at all for the static codes. Colors, dot styles, logo embedding, and brand presets are all included, and downloads come as PNG or SVG.

The static generation is the genuinely distinctive part here, because static codes are built inside your browser, so whatever you encode never reaches their servers, which matters when the thing you are encoding is a WiFi password or an internal link.

The trade-offs are real and worth naming, since there is no bulk creation, so twenty codes means twenty separate jobs. The 500-scan monthly ceiling is low for a busy public placement. One independent developer maintains it, with no published compliance certifications, which a procurement team will want to know about.  It suits small batches where a clean file and no signup matter more than scale does.

5. Hovercode

Hovercode makes the same durability promise TQRCG does, and it puts it in writing. Your first three dynamic codes stay live even if you subscribe later and then cancel. The free plan costs $0 a month and covers 3 dynamic QR Codes held in total, unlimited static codes, unlimited scans, logo branding, and three months of analytics history, with no advertising served on scan.

It also includes GS1 Digital Link QR Codes on the free tier, which is unusual, and relevant if your category sits inside the GS1 transition to QR Codes. GS1 reports that transition is being tested in 48 countries representing 88% of world GDP.

Pro costs $12 per month billed monthly or $120 a year for 100 dynamic codes held in total, whereas Business costs $39 per month or $390 a year for 600 codes a month plus the bulk generator, GPS tracking and CSV export. Pro’s 100 codes is a lifetime allowance that never resets, so you eventually delete codes or upgrade.  It fits packaged goods teams needing GS1 support without an enterprise contract.

6. Flowcode

Flowcode treats a dynamic code as a conversion point, and its free plan includes something nobody else here offers, which is two hosted mobile landing pages. The free tier costs $0 a month and covers 2 dynamic codes, one seat, one designed template and analytics on your first 500 scans. The codes stay ad free and keep resolving past that ceiling, so you lose the reporting and keep the redirect.

Pro Plus costs $25 per month billed annually for 50 codes and landing pages, with analytics on 6,000 scans and bulk creation of 50. A Growth tier is listed at $250 and marked annual only, though the page does not state whether that figure is monthly or the yearly total.

The landing pages are the real argument in Flowcode’s favour, because pointing a code at a mobile page Flowcode hosts beats pointing it at a PDF, and it removes a dependency on whoever manages your website. The analytics ceiling is the counter-argument, since 6,000 scans on a $25 plan is roughly two months for a moderately busy placement.  It suits campaigns where the page behind the code matters more than the number of codes.

7. Bitly

Bitly finishes last in a dynamic comparison for a reason its own pricing table makes plain. Redirects, the feature that repoints a code after printing, is listed as unavailable on the free plan. A free Bitly QR Code therefore behaves like a static one, whatever the product page calls it.

Paid tiers meter the redirect rather than including it. Core costs $10 per month billed annually, an annual charge of $120, and carries 5 QR Codes and 5 redirects a month. Growth costs $29 per month billed annually or $35 billed monthly, for 10 codes and 20 redirects a month. Premium costs $199 per month billed annually, for 200 codes and 110 redirects, and it is the first tier with city-level and device data.

What Bitly does give away is export formats, with PNG, JPEG, and SVG on every tier including free, and unlimited scans throughout. Data History runs 30 days on Core, 120 days on Growth, one year on Premium, and two years on Enterprise, which is the deepest retention ladder here. Full details of every tier sit on the Bitly pricing page.  It makes sense for teams already running Bitly for links, where QR Codes are a secondary output.

How do you pick between them?

Work through three questions in order, because each one removes options from the shortlist.

How many codes will you genuinely need to edit?

Count the destinations that will move, not the codes you will print. A restaurant printing forty table tents needs one editable code, because every tent points at the same menu. A brand running forty SKUs on a shelf needs forty of them. Most people overestimate this number badly, and two free codes cover more real cases than the marketing on any of these pages suggests.

What happens to your code if the card on file fails?

This is the question nobody asks on a sales call, and it is reliably the one that costs the most later. QR TIGER states that dynamic codes stop working when the plan expires. Bitly does not offer redirects on free at all. TQRCG and Hovercode both keep their free codes running regardless, and both put it in writing.

Scale that against your print run, because a single failed renewal does not break one code, it breaks every code you have in the field on the same morning.

Are you paying for codes, scans, or seats?

These three tools meter three different things, and picking the wrong axis is how budgets get wasted. Bitly meters codes per month, QRCodeChimp meters scans per account, and Flowcode meters analytics instead of codes. Work out which of those you will hit first, then shop on that number rather than on the headline price.

Test one code before you commit to a plan

Create a dynamic QR Code on TQRCG’s free plan, print it or share it, then change the destination once and watch the scan data arrive by city and device. That takes an afternoon, and it will settle the question better than any comparison table, including this one.

Questions people ask before switching to dynamic codes

Are dynamic QR Codes free?

Some of them are, and the allowances vary widely, since TQRCG gives you 2 free dynamic QR Codes that never expire, QR Code Prime gives you 10 with a free account, and Hovercode gives you 3 that survive a cancellation. Bitly does not include redirects on its free plan, so its free QR Codes cannot be repointed. Free dynamic allowances range from zero to ten across the tools in this comparison.

Do dynamic QR Codes expire?

That depends entirely on the provider, and it is the single most important thing to check. QR TIGER states that dynamic codes stop working once a plan expires. TQRCG states that its free dynamic codes stay live through a downgrade or cancellation, and Hovercode makes the same commitment for its first three codes. Static codes never expire anywhere, because no server sits in the middle.

Can I convert a static QR Code into a dynamic one?

No, and this is worth knowing before you print. The destination is encoded into the pattern of a static code, so changing it changes the pattern, which means a new code and a reprint. Decide before you print, because this is not reversible afterward.

How many scans can a dynamic QR Code handle?

The code itself has no limit, but your plan usually does. QR TIGER’s free tier caps at 500 scans per code, QRCodeChimp caps at 1,000 scans a month across the whole account, and Flowcode stops reporting after 500 scans while the code keeps working. Bitly is the outlier here, with unlimited scans on every tier, including free.

Is a dynamic QR Code worth paying for?

If any destination will ever change, yes, because the alternative is reprinting. If every destination is permanent, such as a WiFi password or a phone number, a free static code does the job and no subscription is needed. Most businesses need a small number of dynamic codes and a large number of static ones, which is why the free tiers with two or three editable codes cover more cases than they appear to.
