How to Use Flow, Google’s New Video-Making Platform for Digital Marketing

Scroll through TikTok and Instagram, and you’ll probably see at least a few videos that seem a bit surreal or strange. These are AI-generated videos that not only grab attention but often go viral. AI companies are investing heavily in text-to-video technology to satisfy both digital creators and social media users, and Google’s Flow is the latest addition to the list.

While Google initially pitched Flow as a tool for filmmakers and storytellers, it holds enormous potential for digital marketing as well. Marketers can leverage Flow to rapidly produce engaging video content (e.g. social media clips, promo videos, ads) without the traditional high costs and long lead times of video production. Below, we’ll explore Flow’s availability (and how to access it if it’s not yet in your country), and dive into strategic ways to use this new platform for marketing success.

Flow’s Availability and Using Residential Proxies for Access

Where is Flow available? When it launched in May 2025, Flow was initially limited to users in the United States through Google’s AI Pro and AI Ultra subscription plans. Google has since begun expanding access – as of mid-2025, Flow is officially available to adult users in over 70 countries, with more regions expected to come online soon. However, some marketers around the world may still find the service unavailable in their country for now. If you encounter a message that your Google account isn’t eligible due to region or age restrictions, you’re not alone. Google is rolling out Flow gradually, so availability can vary.

So what if you’re a marketer outside the supported countries, eager to try Flow right away? One solution is to use a residential proxy to bypass the geo-restriction. In simple terms, a proxy lets you route your internet connection through a server in another location; a rotating residential proxy specifically uses an IP address from a real household internet connection in the target country. This means when you connect through a residential proxy, Google’s systems will see your traffic as coming from a legitimate local user rather than from abroad. By selecting a proxy node based in a country where Flow is available (for example, a US-based residential IP address), you can effectively trick Google into treating you as a local user and gain access to Flow’s features even if you’re physically elsewhere.

Not all proxies are equal for this task. Residential proxies have a key advantage: because they use authentic ISP-issued IP addresses, they are far less likely to be flagged or blocked by Google compared to datacenter proxies or generic VPNs. Many online services (Google included) can detect and sometimes restrict known VPN or cloud server IP ranges associated with traffic masking. In contrast, residential IPs blend in with normal user traffic, offering a reduced risk of detection.

Using Flow for Strategic Digital Marketing Content

Video marketing is now a cornerstone of digital strategy – 95% of marketing professionals consider video an important part of their plan, and consumers respond strongly to it. In fact, 84% of people say a brand’s video convinced them to buy a product or service, highlighting the persuasive power of well-crafted video content. Traditionally, producing high-quality videos has been resource-intensive, but Flow’s AI-generation lowers the barrier dramatically. Marketers can potentially generate campaign videos in minutes by typing out a creative brief, instead of spending weeks on filming and editing.

So how can Flow be leveraged in a marketing strategy? Well, Flow specializes in making small clips, which is valuable for digital creators to stay relevant in the short-form content trend on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and Facebook.

Importantly, Flow is not just a random video generator – it includes robust editing and control features that marketers will appreciate. You can import your own assets (images, logos, product photos) as “ingredients” and then incorporate them into AI-generated scenes. This means, for instance, you could ensure your brand’s mascot or a specific product image appears consistently in the video. Flow also offers a Camera Control feature to adjust camera angles and movement in the scene, and a Scenebuilder to extend scenes or transition between shots with continuous motion and consistent characters.

Flow’s emergence also marks a significant step in the competitive landscape of AI content creation. Until now, OpenAI and other AI providers have offered tools for text that quickly became invaluable for generating ideas, crafting business plans, editing, and so on, and images (DALL·E, Midjourney), but video generation was largely uncharted territory for mainstream users. A few startups have been experimenting with AI video, often leveraging research models – in fact, several third-party tools have used Google’s earlier models under the hood. With Flow, Google has moved into the application layer itself, delivering an official, consumer-facing video generator backed by its most powerful AI models.
